Between the biting winds coming off Lake Ontario and the dry, artificial heat pumping through our homes in neighborhoods from Brighton to Irondequoit, our hair takes a serious beating this time of year. Hi, I’m Michelle Doyle, and I’ve spent years helping my clients navigate the specific challenges of Upstate New York weather. When the temperature drops, the moisture in the air vanishes, leaving your hair prone to static, breakage, and dullness. But don't worry, you don't have to hide under a beanie until May. Here is my professional guide to keeping your hair radiant and resilient through the Rochester thaw. ## Hydration is Your Best Friend Just as you swap your light summer moisturizer for a heavier cream, your hair needs a seasonal upgrade. The combination of freezing outdoor air and dry indoor heating strips the hair shaft of its natural oils. I always recommend my clients switch to a **moisturizing shampoo and conditioner** as soon as the first frost hits. Look for ingredients like shea butter, argan oil, or jojoba oil. Once a week, treat yourself to a deep conditioning mask.
