If you’ve ever dyed your hair a beautiful color only to feel like it made you look a bit washed out or sallow, you’ve experienced the importance of skin tone harmony. I’m Michelle Doyle, and here in the heart of Rochester, I’ve spent years helping my clients find that 'lightbulb moment', the color that doesn’t just sit on top of their head, but actually makes their eyes pop and their skin glow. Choosing the right shade is a science, and today, I’m breaking down how we find your perfect match. ## Step 1: Determine Your Undertone Your skin tone consists of two parts: your surface shade (fair, medium, deep) and your undertone (warm, cool, or neutral). While your surface shade might change if you’ve spent a weekend out at Ontario Beach Park, your undertone stays the same. - **Cool Undertones:** You have hints of blue, pink, or red. Your veins likely look blue or purple. - **Warm Undertones:** You have hints of yellow, peachy, or golden. However, if you want a high-fashion, icy look, we can lean into the coolness with platinum or ash shades, just be prepared to add a bit more bronzer to your makeup routine! ### For Warm Undertones Warm skin looks incredible when paired with cool, crisp colors. Think champagne blondes, sandy browns, and violet-based reds. These shades act as a filter for your skin, cooling down the yellow or peach tones for a balanced, sophisticated finish. ### For Neutral Undertones Lucky you! Neutral undertones are the most versatile. Whether it’s a bright strawberry blonde or a deep mahogany, most colors will complement your skin.
